The Griffith University SRC stands in solidarity with our Afghan students on campus, online and in the communities where we work and study in.

After 20 years of military intervention and more than a trillion dollars spent, it has been difficult to witness the events in Afghanistan over the past few days.  In times like these, it is difficult to have hope. However, let us remember the words of Martin Luther King Jr.: “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” Please know that your fellow students and staff are thinking of you, we do value you and your contributions to our communities, and we do care.

Griffith’s health and wellbeing services are available to assist students that need counselling and support: https://www.griffith.edu.au/…/wellness…/mental-wellness

We invite and encourage Afghan students to come to us with any suggestions about how we can further support and advocate for them during this time.  Finally, we add our voice to those calling for the federal government to do more to bring Afghans back to Australia whether they be citizens, colleagues of our veterans, or as refugees.
