Mark your calendar: National AusAlert Test
Monday 27 July 2026 at 2 pm
Australia’s new emergency warning system, AusAlert, is being tested nationwide on Monday, 27 July, at 2:00 pm (AEST) / 1:30 pm ACST / 12:00 pm AWST. At that time, most compatible mobile phones, tablets and some smart watches will:
- Play a loud siren-like sound for about 10 seconds (even on silent or Do Not Disturb)
- Vibrate
- Display a message clearly stating it’s a test
You don’t need to do anything; it’s just a test to make sure the system works before AusAlert officially launches in October 2026. AusAlerts contain important information and are used to keep you safe and informed during disasters. As the AusAlert national test is a Critical Alert, you can’t turn it off via your device settings.
IMPORTANT: If receiving the test alert could be distressing or unsafe for you or someone you know, for example, if you use a hidden device, turn your phone off or switch to aeroplane mode before 2pm and leave it off for at least an hour.
