Advocacy and Grievances

What is Advocacy?

Advocacy is a free, confidential support service for Griffith students and higher degree research candidates who need help understanding or responding to university decisions, processes, or concerns.

Advocates don’t judge, discipline, or make decisions. Our role is to support you, explain your options, and help you advocate for yourself.

What can an Advocate help with?

An Advocate can assist you with:

  • Reviewing and appealing decisions, such as grades
  • Academic standing, probation, or exclusion
  • Academic integrity or misconduct matters (including plagiarism or AI concerns)
  • Complaints
  • Withdrawals due to special circumstances
  • Special consideration concerns
  • Discrimination, harassment and bullying
  • HDR candidature and supervision issues

How Advocacy supports you

Advocates can:

  • Talk through your situation and help you understand your options
  • Explain relevant university policies and procedures
  • Help you draft or review emails, appeals, or complaints
  • Support you in preparing for meetings with the university
  • Attend meetings with you where appropriate

Who can access Advocacy?

The Advocacy team is available to all currently enrolled Griffith University students and higher degree research candidates studying at Logan, Brisbane, or online campuses.

All Gold Coast students are supported by the Gold Coast Student Guild.
