Dear Griffith University undergraduate students,
We are thrilled to share the Queensland Government’s announcement to slash fares to 50 cents from August 5th, for a trial period of six months. This will provide meaningful relief to many of our students who are struggling with cost of living pressures. We will continue to work in this space to push this substantial decrease in fares beyond the trial period.
This initiative comes at a crucial time amidst the current cost-of-living crisis and will help provide substantial relief to our student community: Brisbane Times Article.
While we welcome and appreciate these temporary measures, we must not lose sight of the underlying issues stemming from the current concession fare framework. The Student Representative Council (SRC) remains steadfast alongside our other QLD University colleagues in our commitment to our ‘Fares Fair’ campaign. This campaign will continue to advocate for reducing the economic burden and ensure all students, including part-time students, can access concession rates across Queensland.
Thank you for your support and engagement in this important advocacy effort. Together, we can work towards lasting and equitable solutions.
The Student Representative Council (SRC)
